What's in a size? apparantly everything; especially for us women. Its really unbelievable how much of ourselves we base on just one or two little letters on a tag. I read about a study the other day about department stores and sizes. The study took a bunch of women to different department stores and had them try on various different outfits in various sizes. The findings: Each woman was a different size in each store, eventhough they tried on the exact same type of outfit. So, for instance, if you tried on the same type of top in one store in a Small, and did the same at the other store, it turned out to be either too small or too big.
As a person who is in the fashion industry, I wasn't surprised by these findings at all. As I know a dirty litle secret; in that the designers pretty much just like to torture us and play mind games with us!! no, that's not exactly true; but they do manipulate the sizes. For example, there's something called "vanity" sizes. So a designers sizes may actually truly be small, medium, large. But to fool us, they label it xsmall, small and medium. Some even do the opposite and make their items two sizes too small.
Because of this fact, I always tell my customers to not really pay attention to the size on the tag and just to try the item on because you just never know. Even within the same designer, sizes can vary depending on the cut, shape and even material of the garment. So, don't shy away from an item because of the size because you might be pleasantly surprised!
Happy Shopping!!
